FAQs
Which scent do I pick?
It doesn't matter - all of our scents are safe for dogs and smell amazing. Variety is important, so every kit comes with a few different options!
How strong is the scent?
Our scents are strong enough for your dog to smell if the toy is hidden, but not overpowering for the human nose. What we perceive as a faint trace of cinnamon happens to be a blaring alarm for your dog’s senses. No wonder they can smell your secret snack from the other room!
How long do the scents last?
The scent refills last a few months if you put them away between play sessions. If a refill is left out, it will lose potency over time. You can re-activate it by gently crushing it between your fingers or microwaving it for 10 seconds.
Is it hard to replace the scent?
Difficulty level: easy with human fingers, nearly impossible with paws. All you have to do is open the toy, compost the old scent refill, insert a new one, and then close the toy.
What if my dog loses interest in the toy?
That's why our scents are refillable! You wouldn’t want to watch the same episode of your show over and over again (even if it's really good). All you have to do replace the old scent with a new refill. And, by the way, the scent refills are compostable!
Do you have scents for AKC scent work trials?
AKC trials include birch, anise seed, and clove essential oils. Essential oils are toxic to dogs so we don't use them. Our Spice Trail scent includes anise seed (not essential oil, but the actual dried plant).
My dog competes in scent work, can I use your toys to practice?
Spice Trail scent contains anise seed. If you dog competes, we recommend choosing one of the other refills that do not contain scents that would interfere with scent work trials.
How durable are Longsock toys?
We are constantly searching and testing new fabrics to find the most durable and sustainable options. The weave for our fabrics were selected based on thickness and tightness, while our seams are reinforced with extra stitching to protect the toy from the most precise toy “surgeons” out there.
Will your toys work for my power-chewer dog?
Unfortunately, the most durable materials are typically made with plastic. We are committed to being plastic-free and feel strongly about the dogs’ health and our planet. That’s why we make our toys with natural materials only. As a result, our toys can not withstand the toughest chewers. You can supervise your dog during play and take the toy away if you see your dog settling down to destroy it.
What if my dog swallows the toy?
We recommend supervising your dog during play and taking the toy away if they start to rip it. In an unlikely event of ingestion, rest assured, all the herbs and spices we use are safe for dogs (and some even have beneficial properties!). However, if the dog swallows any part of the toy, we recommend you speak with your veterinarian as soon as possible, just in case.
How do I wash the toys?
Remove the scent refill. Wash the toy in cold water with mild detergent on a gentle cycle. Unless you want a new gift for your neighborhood Chihuahua Pixie, do not put it in the dryer because both cotton and wool shrink in high temperatures.
Will your toys be available in more colors or designs?
We are constantly expanding our selection. Send us a note with what you want to see next, and sign up for our mailing list to be the first to know about new drops.

My dogs really enjoyed the toy and were very engaged. A total different experience for you pet and one where you are able to watch them be a dog.

Moo loved the smells, and she caught on super quick to the game of finding it. If you can't get out to walk your dog or need to burn off some of their energy, this toy lets them have a sniff-afari around the house and stimulate their sense and curiosity. Moo would tear the toy up if I let her, so we use it strictly for hiding and finding only. Once she finds it, she gets rewarded or praises and then it gets re-hid. It's such a great owner-dog game too, where it's an interactive activity between both parties versus the dog just chewing on a toy alone.

We've had a few rounds of play with the scented pouches so far. We've made a game of "find" out of it, and Fuji loved it! I could tell that he was mentally stimulated looking for the scented pouch, and enjoyed the thrill of it. (I was able to jump immediately to "finding" as he is familiar with sniff-training.) Despite Fuji's previous sniff-training exposure, I was really surprised how quickly he caught on to our hide-and-seek game! I only had to give an example/walk through it with him once. He was tired after our play, which was a wonderful sign especially as it was a rainy afternoon.
Was this helpful? - KKabrinaVerified BuyerI recommend this productRated 5 out of 5 stars1 year agoI like that this is a toy I use to play "with" my dogs. The scent adds a new level of complexity and I look forward to growing our games together.
My dog that likes toys and retrieving (Kiva) thought this toy was fabulous. You could tell it was something different and exciting for her. She struggled to even sit as she was so excited. She had a great time rooting around in her toy box to find it while we were playing. After our play sessions (when the toy is on my desk), she comes up to ask for it.
My second pup (Matcha) is not really the play type, but she did get excited about this toy. She liked it so much that she wanted to take it and hide it from her sister. I will need to put more work into helping her interact with me to play with it.
I was happy that I could progress to hiding the pouch in with other toys so quickly and my dog was having success quickly. I thought I would have to build the behaviors in a more gradual way and it surprised me that the game seemed to fall into place rapidly.
